APPLE + N will open the "New Session" window
APPLE + SHIFT + N will open the "Create New Track" window
“APPLE =” will switch between the Edit Window and the Mix Window
When recording, set the level of the mic between 1/2 and 3/4 of the meter at the most.
OPTION + C will get rid of the clip lights on all tracks.
APPLE + S will save the session
RETURN will bring you to the beginning of your session
To record: -record enabled the tracks you want to record on to -press "3" on the numeric key pad (on the right side of the keyboard)
APPLE + TAB will toggle between different applications open on the computer
APPLE + Q will quit a pro tools session
SPACE BAR will play or stop playback in pro tools
Always save your session but do not use "save as" unless you have a special reason.
Burn your session onto a CD: -open up the application called Toast Titanium -click on "new disk" at the bottom left hand corner -drag session data folder into toast -press burn (the red button at the right hand corner)
APPLE + SHIFT + W will close your session but will not close pro tools
To unmount a harddrive from pro tools (after you save and close your session): -press “OPTION ;” - this will bring up the workspace window -right click on your drive and press "unmount"
APPLE + E will cut / sEparate” a selection of audio
Slip mode will allow a selection of audio to move around freely -you can overlap audio files -there can be gaps between sections of audio
Shuffle mode will snap one section of audio to the end of another section -there cannot be overlapping -there will be no gaps
The trimmer tool will add or subtract either the beginning or end of an audio region
The grabber tool will select an entire audio region and can move it
The selector tool can be used to highlight a section of an audio file
If you hold OPTION and hold LEFT CLICK you will preview the audio in the region list
APPLE + D will duplicate the highlighted region
To import audio: -File ->Import ->Import Audio or -APPLE + SHIFT + I
APPLE + I to identify beat
While tempo mapping liver performances: you will want to put a tempo marker at the beginning of every measure
To Tab to transient use (L) to tab left and (') to tab right -Make sure tab to transient is turned on as well as the A...Z square
After the transient is found, identify the beat (APPLE + I) -Type in the number for the next FULL measure
Switch to back to the multi-tool after using zoomer: -turn on multi tool -left click and hold over zoomer tool and switch to single zoom
To sync reason with pro tools -create a stereo aux track in pro tools -in the insert section -put in rewire -instrument -->reason IN REASON -create a 14:2 mixer -create a redrum
Make a loop using the redrum step sequencer -in the regular sequencer select the amount of measures you want to copy your loop to -right click the dark green area in the step sequencer and select "copy to track" -deselect the "enable pattern section" in the redrum step sequencer
You can change nudge value by the "nudge" section (written in green lettering located in the black bar above the edit window rulers) or hols Apple Option and the + and – nudge keys.
Hold down on the Grabber Tool and switch to "object" -allows you to select the regions you want without having to highlight the entire region or regions
MARKERS: -you can create a marker by pressing the ENTER key on the numeric key pad -go into preferences and change to "auto name" so you can make multiple markers without having to stop and name them -they can be named after -you can create a pattern/beat with the markers and copy and paste parts of the song or beat to the markers
You can open the "tracks" list and "edit groups" list by pressing the double arrow at the bottom left of the screen -in the "edit groups" list you can select the "all group" -this allows you, when you highlight a region, to highlight every track that is the same length of that region
after highlighting a region APPLE + D will duplicate the region OPTION + R will repeat (you choose how many times it repeats)
Verses and Choruses are usually multiples of 4 bars/ measures
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A...Z ON AND PRESS "N" so that it is "cd" mode and not "tape" mode
Selecting a region, holding OPTION and dragging it to another location will place a copy of that region where you drag it to
Your "Frogger Keys" are up(p) and down(;) -on the digidesign keyboards they have arrows on them
Sample rate is 2X the highest frequency you will record. Or, half the sample rate is the highest frequency you will record

ALL group -if you do something to one track, it will happen to all tracks -this includes moving faders, soloing, muting, panning -if you right click or hold CONTROL and left click something it will bypass the ALL group for that particular action
Always make a master fader. Apple Shift N, Apple ->, Apple Down, Apple Down.
OPTION+click a fader will bring that fader to unity
APPLE+OPTION+M: minimize or maximize faders in the mix window
APPLE+G: will create a group (after you highlight the names of the tracks you want to group together) -name it, pick a letter to represent it to highligh a group of tracks: -click on the first track -hold SHIFT and click on the the last track you want
to send a group to an aux (as a group master track): -highlight the names of the tracks -hold SHIFT and OPTION -change the output of one track to an empty/ unused bus (ex. bus 1-2) [this will change the output of all of the tracks in the group] -create a stereo aux track and change its input to the empty / unused bus you chose (ex. bus 1-2) -solo safe the group aux track (hold APPLE and left click on the solo button on the aux)
REVERBS AND DELAY Create a stereo aux track -solo safe the aux -place a reverb on an insert on the aux track -make the input of the aux an empty bus (ex. 3-4) -hold OPTION and set the send of one track as that bus you picked (this will set the bus on each track) -make sure to take the bus off of the send of the reverb aux or a feedback loop
To enable automation on any part of a plug in: -hold down the "claw" (CONTROL+OPTION+APPLE) then left click on the part of the plug in that you want to be able to automate |
